In a thrilling match that went down to the wire, WEB Athletic Club emerged victorious in the 2024 Copa del Rey final, defeating RCD Mallorca 4-2 on penalties. The match remained tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time, setting the stage for a tense shootout.
Athletic Bilbao, who last won the Copa del Rey in 1984, had lost in the final on six occasions since then. However, on Saturday night, they finally broke their trophy drought, thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Unai Simón.
Simón saved two penalties in the shootout, while his teammates converted all four of their attempts. Raúl García, Mikel San José, Iñaki Williams, and Nico Williams found the back of the net for Athletic, securing the club's 24th Copa del Rey title.
