Reading Rainbow Returns to PBS

40th Anniversary Celebration Includes New Episodes

Iconic Children's Series Premiered in 1983

PBS is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Reading Rainbow, the award-winning children's series that introduced generations of young viewers to the joy of reading. Debuting in 1983, Reading Rainbow became the most-watched PBS program in the country and is credited with helping to foster a lifelong love of reading in millions of children.

As part of the anniversary celebration, PBS will be airing 40 full episodes of the classic series, featuring host LeVar Burton's signature blend of storytelling, celebrity guests, and educational content. The episodes will be available on PBS stations and streaming on the PBS Kids Video app.

In addition to the classic episodes, PBS will also be partnering with Burton's company, RRKIDZ, to launch a new Reading Rainbow app. The app will feature unlimited access to books, as well as educational games and activities designed to help children develop their literacy skills.

"Reading Rainbow has always been about more than just teaching children to read," said Burton. "It's about inspiring them to become lifelong learners and to develop a passion for the written word. I'm thrilled that we're able to bring Reading Rainbow back to PBS and to a whole new generation of children."
